5th Rd 2009 SPICE Cup: So draws anew

Filipino teen Grandmaster Wesley So drew his last game yesterday in the first round of the six-man double-round robin grandmaster invitational edition of the prestigious 2009 SPICE Cup being held at Texas Tech University.
Sixteen-year-old So (Elo 2644) split the point in the fifth round against 19-year-old Russian Dmitry Andreikin (Elo2659).
Today is rest day. The second round resumes tomorrow with So facing American GM Yuriy Kuzubov (Elo 2636). Their first meeting was a draw.
So is now in fifth place with 2 points behind Norwegian GM Jon Ludvig Hammer (Elo 2585), Kuzubov and Andreikin who occupy respectively the first, second and third places with identical 3 points each.
Running fourth is Azerbajian GM Rauf Memedov (2626) with 2.5 points while American GM Varuzha Akobian (2636) is dead last in sixth place with 1.5 points.
The Filipino chess wizard needs to win in succession to boast his chances of topping the third stage of this event under the tutelage of GM Susan Polgar, sisters of Judith and Sofia who are also topnotch chess champions. -30-
